Berlin Calling was an official selection at the Hartford Jewish Film Festival on March 19, 2015. Sponsored by CT Voices of Hope, the screening sold out 260 seats and was followed by Q&A with director Nigel Dick.

Prior to the screening, Nigel also spoke with teens at Avon High School and was presented with a warm pair of flannel PJS with the Avon school logo by social studies teacher Stu Abrams, as it was quite a bit more chilly on the East Coast than what Nigel was used to in Los Angeles!

On December 11, 2014, Berlin Calling’s Ben Waserman introduced a screening of the film at the Holocaust Museum Houston, where his story and artifacts are featured throughout the museum. Following the film, Ben participated in a Q&A with his daughter and co-star Kastle Waserman, and director Nigel Dick, who attended via Skype from Los Angeles.

Director Nigel Dick and “Berlin Calling” co-writer/featured cast member Kastle Waserman were honored to participate in a screening and Q&A for the American Red Cross team members who work on their Family Links project. Caseworkers at local chapters around the US help families locate relatives missing due to war or natural disasters.

The Red Cross Holocaust Tracing Services played a pivotal role in helping Kastle find out what happened to her family in the Holocaust. Pulling from over 50 million records held in Bad Arolson, the documents received helped the Wasermans finally know what happened to family members who disappeared during the Nazi persecution and the answers are featured prominently in “Berlin Calling”.

In speaking with the team members in attendance, they stressed how it is important to get the word out about their survivors. Many survivors of conflict and natural disasters do not know there is someone they can reach out to for help. Learn more on their website.

The event also honored and presented an award to Irving Margol, former chair of the national Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Center Advisory Committee and a founding member of the National Restoring Family Links Committee. He kindly stated how “Berlin Calling” strongly shows the way the Red Cross Tracing Services plays an important role in helping families find closure following a tragedy.

The screening took place in the gorgeous Cravens Estate, built in 1926 in the Pasadena residential neighborhood once known as “Millionaire’s Row.” The estate is now headquarters of the San Gabriel Pomona Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross. The spectacular setting is also a popular film location and has been seen in “Rush Hour 3”. “24”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Beverly Hills 90210”, “Without a Trace”, “The Practice” and “Mad Men”.

It is our hope that the Red Cross team knows how much the “Berlin Calling” family appreciate the work they do – it impacts lives beyond what words can express.

Berlin Calling held its Los Angeles Premiere at the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust (LAMOTH) on June 19, 2014 . We chose this location because the museum was kind enough to let us film there and we thank them for their support. The event was sold-out and attendees stayed for a Q&A with director Nigel Dick and cast member Kastle Waserman following the screening. Thank you to everyone who came out! We wanted to take a moment to say thank you the Red Cross Holocaust Tracing Service.
